Enviro.. Car..

Today apart from delivering my Tory leaflets, I fitted a new starter motor to my old Little car (Clio).. Mostly because I've been driving my Jaguar far too much at present even though fuel is heading the right way it's still twice as much to run around in the Jag compared to the Clio. Anyhow it got me thinking about my little Clio which is old it's on a J plate so I estimate that to be about 1993. The car however has only done 22K since it was owned by an old couple from new all its life (Also its an auto and so is the Jag so swapping between them is easy.. I have a few stories about getting back in a stick after driving an auto so now I avoid it as much as possible)... Anyhow back to the Point.. most people would think that the car is too old and should be replaced by a nice shiny new car that is "much cleaner" but this has to be a very upside down way of thinking.. surely the best thing to do is to keep running the older cars as long as possible, just repairing the worn parts as they go... rather than making a whole new car every five or six years and scrapping the old ones... surely this is much gentler on the Environment than mining all the material that is required, and all the energy required to make a shiny new one!! Am I the only one that gets this... it really winds me up when people bang on and on about the environment telling us we need all these new environmentally friendly things when our old ones work just fine.
