I had my first planning meeting last week, and well on Friday I got a one liner mention in the press.
The case was interesting, some industrial units to be built in Quedgley, opposite some housing. The thing is I was sympathetic to the residents cause, so I voted against the unit.. it still went through though. The sad thing is we don't really have a whole lot of say... If the majority had voted like me, the case would have gone to appeal and then its more than probable that the council would loose, this would probably incur financial costs.
Before I had my first planning meeting, I thought I knew how I would vote, generally as in line with the officers recommendations, since they are the experts and know what is and is not allowed. Especially since its quasi-legal. Well now I'm just not so sure, since that's not what I did.. I still feel I voted the right way, even if it wasn't the correct way. |
